The organizer's work
She made a list: the longest signature treatment for the bride, each bridesmaid choosing her own session, the times staggered, and one long tea sitting in the middle. The concierge turned the confirmation into something like an itinerary: who entered which room at what time, written out clearly.
The bride held herself composed at first, afraid it was too quiet to feel like a wedding. Halfway through her session, she messaged the organizer from her room: I have never been this relaxed in my life. Three crying emojis followed.
The next morning
Nothing was scheduled for the next day. Only a slow breakfast and a roomful of barefaced women, talking about the things they never usually talk about. One said she wanted her birthday done this way next year; another was already asking how membership worked.
On the drive back, the bride fell asleep with her head on the organizer's shoulder. The organizer thought: she had given many gifts over the years — bags, flowers, jewelry — and none of them like this one. A woman's condition, she thought, was the finest dowry she could send her off with.
