The Breath of Yoni: Slowing Down, Step by Step

In a Yoni private retreat, the first thing that moves is not the body. It is the breath. The door closes, the light drops low, a warmed towel settles over your lower belly — and the breath you have been holding all day finally lets itself out, slowly.

The Breath of Yoni: Slowing Down, Step by Step

When the breath is hurried, the body doesn't lie

Someone who talks fast, walks fast and answers messages fast all day breathes the same way lying down: each breath stops at the chest, the shoulders hitching with it. The therapist does not rush to begin. She warms her palms first and rests them lightly over your lower belly, doing nothing at all, waiting until that skin warms through.

Once the warmth arrives, the breath sinks on its own. In, and the belly rises a little; out, and the palm settles with it, slower each time. In the room there is only very low music, the scent of steam, candlelight moving on the wall. You don't need to count. Just follow the rise and fall of that hand.

Hand the pace over, step by step

Only once the breathing steadies does the care follow that slowed line inward: warm oil at the waist first, the heel of the palm pushing open in the rhythm of your breath — closer as you breathe in, a touch deeper as you breathe out. Every step of the intimate care stays inside the scope confirmed before anything began. Where to pause, where to pass by — you decide, and a raised hand stops anything, at any moment.

Toward the second half, most people yawn first, long and deep, eyes a little wet. That isn't sleepiness. It is a nervous system held tight all day finally being untied. This retreat is for adult women, 21 and over, and precisely because every step is confirmed by you and can be stopped at any time, the letting go dares to reach its most private layer.

When it ends, don't sit up right away

The last five minutes are for doing nothing: the hot towel returns to your lower belly, tea is placed in your hands, and you lie wrapped in the blanket listening to your own breathing — no longer the rhythm you walked in with. Carry that slowness out with you, and tonight's sleep will be waiting for you a step ahead.
